How to Find Self-Care Tools When You Don’t Know Where to Start
4 Simple Practices to Help You Reconnect with Yourself
If you’ve ever found yourself unsure of how to care for yourself—or even what you need—know that you're not alone. The good news? You don’t need a weekend retreat or hours of free time to start caring for your nervous system, your spirit, and your body. Small, intentional practices rooted in yoga and holistic wellness can make a big impact.
Here are four powerful and accessible self-care tools you can use to feel more grounded, centered, and whole—no matter how busy life gets.
1. Essential Oils: Quick Aromatherapy for Instant Reset
Why Use It:
Essential oils are a gentle way to shift your emotional state in seconds. When you're overwhelmed, the right scent can help soothe your nervous system, calm anxiety, or boost focus.
How to Use It:
Morning uplift: Try citrus oils like orange or lemon in a diffuser to energize your start.
Afternoon stress relief: Dab a drop of lavender or chamomile oil on your wrists or neck.
Evening wind-down: Add a few drops of eucalyptus or cedarwood to a warm bath or shower.
Self-Care Tip: Keep a roller blend in your bag or desk drawer as an on-the-go stress reliever. A deep inhale can act as a reset button during tense moments.

2. Chakras: Understanding Your Energy Centers
Why Use It:
When we feel off but can’t explain why, our chakra system can provide insight. Chakras are energy centers in the body that correspond to physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Exploring them helps you tune in to what area of your life needs attention.
How to Use It:
Feeling unmotivated? Focus on your solar plexus chakra with breathwork and affirmations like “I am confident and capable.”
Disconnected from others? Work on your heart chakra with chest-opening yoga poses and loving-kindness meditations.
Lacking clarity? Stimulate the third-eye chakra with a short candle-gazing practice (trataka) or journaling.
Self-Care Tip: You don’t need to understand every detail of the chakra system to benefit from it. Simply check in with your body and ask: What area feels blocked or neglected? Then bring gentle attention there.

3. Meditation: Create Space in a Crowded Mind
Why Use It:
Meditation is one of the most effective ways to shift from reactivity to calm presence. It gives your mind a break from constant planning, problem-solving, and noise—something most of us deeply crave.
How to Use It:
Start small: Try 2–5 minutes of guided meditation in the morning before checking your phone.
Walking meditation: Use your lunch break to walk slowly, focusing only on your steps and breath.
Evening release: Sit quietly before bed and breathe deeply while repeating a calming mantra like “I am safe, I am home.”
Self-Care Tip: Don’t worry about “doing it right.” Your mind will wander—that’s part of the process. The win is just showing up.

4. Savasana: Rest That Actually Heals
Why Use It:
We often think of rest as “doing nothing,” but intentional rest like savasana is a vital way to allow the body and mind to integrate and release stress. Savasana isn’t just a pose—it’s a practice in surrender.
How to Use It:
At the end of your yoga practice: Don’t skip savasana, even if it’s just for 3 minutes.
Midday break: Lay down on a yoga mat or the floor, place a bolster or pillow under your knees, and cover your eyes. Let your breath soften.
Before sleep: Use a savasana audio or calming music to help shift your nervous system into deep rest.
Self-Care Tip: Try a 5-minute savasana before making big decisions or after emotionally charged moments. It gives your body a chance to pause and your mind time to reset.
